ARTICLE SUMMARY

Sitting next to here mother, Sue whispered in her ear “I love you mom, I will always love you and keep you in my heart”.  Although technically “unresponsive”, facing her own death, her mother squeezed her hand - she had heard and understood her message.

To say a good goodbye when your loved one is facing death and dying:

  • You must face your own fears, and be able to place them aside for your loved one.
  • You must acknowledge your own shortcomings, and recognize soon your loved one will be with you no longer.
  • Tell your loved one how you feel today.
  • Tell them how much you loved them, how much you will miss them when they are gone.
  • Look them in the eye, hold their hand, lean close into them, and whisper in their ear.
Those who face death and dying will cherish forever the words spoken at the final parting.

Heart felt messages are those that are completely honest, and they frequently expose our own vulnerabilities.  When our loved one is facing death and dying now is the time these messages need to be said.  It is the last goodbye.

To say a good goodbye when your loved one is facing death and dying you must face your own fears, and be able to place them aside for your loved one.  You must acknowledge your own shortcomings, and recognize soon your loved one will no longer be with you.  What memories do you want of these last moments together, and more importantly, what memories do you want to give your loved one of these last moments together?

A good goodbye has no strings attached – except for your own heart strings.  Sharing life together you each have built up vulnerabilities and now is the time to let them go.  Tell your loved one how you feel today.  Tell how much you love him or her, how much you will miss your loved one when her or she is gone.  Look them in the eye, hold their hand, lean close into them, and whisper in their ear.  Although they may appear unresponsive, they still may be able to hear you, and may rejoice inside at the message you have left with them.

Those who face death and dying will cherish forever the words spoken at the final parting.
